Why is data connectivity important for a GPS?
To work, a GPS device, needs a position "sensor" (GPS) and a communication system, with which it can send the detected data to a data collection server, where by connecting you can see the position in real time. There are various types of inexpensive trackers on the market, using Bluethoot, BLE, NFC connections. However, all these technologies need a smartphone to act as a "bridge" between the GPS device and the data collection server, using the phone's connection to send the data to the Server. Therefore unusable if your sail ends up in an open cape, where there are no smartphones nearby.
DiscoveRig has built-in 2G/3G cellular data connectivity so that independently it can always send you its location.

No constraints! You can choose not to renew your subscription when you want and resume it when it suits you best.*
*It takes 36 hours for the plan to restart and it is necessary to press the "Action" button on the device before receiving the first position.
